@boynamedalexxx My vote would be for Glenn Close. She can sing and she has Phyllis' brittle sophisticaion. She also has the legs, I bet, for "Lucy and Jessie."

@Dangay13 Well, if the Aaron Sorkin-penned film ever does get made, maybe she could. Even if Mirren can't sing well, she could probably do it. Alexis Smith wasn't a strong singer, but still pulled it off.
Also, if they keep taking their sweet time, perhaps by the time it gets made (if ever), Sorkin's Ex, Cheno, could be Sally...would be an interesting role for her.

It's called "Follies." It opened in 1971 on Broadway. This is from the 1998 Papermill Playhouse production.

I don't know if she can sing but I would loove to see Dame Helen Mirren tackle this on a movie version!!! Or maybe a London Revival...

Nobody's got the pipes like Dee Hoty!
So glad they used this alternate song...perfect for non-dancing Dee Hoty. She shines (not surprisingly), love her facial work. Very Gypsy Rose Lee. Thanks for sharing all these wonderful clips.
