ADY GIL: EVIDENCE OF ILLEGAL ACTS, HARASSMENT AND IMBECILITY (Sea Shepherd)

Ady Gil shown to labor in tangling the propellers of the Japanese vessel by rope after repeated verbal and civil warnings by the Japanese captain. Ady Gil continues in using a laser device in attempt to blind said captain and crew members. In disregard to warnings given, Ady Gil approaches dangerously close to Shonan Maru 2, a much larger vessel incapable to maneuver with precision. The result -- an unfortunate consequence of their own imbecilic behavior.

Saturday, January 09, 2010 Associated Press: SYDNEY — A conservationist group that lost one of its ships in a clash with Japanese whalers off Antarctica has filed a piracy complaint in the Netherlands against the captain and crew of the whaling vessel, one of the group's leaders said Saturday.

On Friday, Sea Shepherd lodged a piracy complaint with the Dutch prosecuting authority, Sea Shepherd Deputy CEO Chuck Swift told The Associated Press by satellite phone from his ship, the Bob Barker.

The group chose to file the complaint in the Netherlands because one of the Ady Gil crew members is Dutch and the Sea Shepherd's main ship, the Steve Irwin, is registered there, according to the complaint.

Sea Shepherd is also considering filing charges of attempted murder in New Zealand, where the Ady Gil was registered, Swift said.

Glenn Inwood, the New Zealand-based spokesman for Japan's Institute of Cetacean Research, which oversees the whaling fleet, dismissed the filing as a publicity stunt.

"They have no real basis here for filing any claims at all, especially of piracy," Inwood told the AP. "The chances of them winning anything, the odds are well against it — noting that they were in the wrong for the incidents to start with."

@MrNigelTheFrog A vessel that size under way at full speed (which it was) CANT make a sharp turn -- more like about (literally) a mile to do a 180 -- The Sea Shepherd vessel on the other hand appears to have been sacrificed intentionally by its captain -- Perhaps for insurance.. @ScienceRules118 Why? They were not in the wrong here, the Ady Gil was clearly in the wrong and it's captain should never be allowed to pilot anything other than a rubber duck. In the ocean the less manoeuvrable vessel has the right of way, the Aby Gil should not have been harassing and deliberately endangering themselves and the crew on the Shonan and should of kept clear. I respect their cause but the way they attempt to go about it makes them nothing more than glorified pirates.
