Tool Parabola guitar cover. There are a ton of tabs out there and they are all different; seems everyone on YouTube plays it different as well. I think it has to do with the crazy tuning. I ended up just tuning it my way and tried to figure it out by ear. A few mess ups...the solo, in particular, sounds "off"; I'll have to work on that some more.

  • Watch this concert video --> watch?v=jUkDMv6mGBs <-- At 5:09 you have a great view of Adam when they start playing Parabola. It's also the video where Maynard bombs. Hearing it without vocals is pretty awesome. And I'm almost positive it's in BEDGBE. Every tab I've ever seen says its

    D| 0h2-3p2

    E| 0----------3p0

    B| ------------------3

In the video I think he might be picking the string instead of hammering on/off or doing some weird palm muting. I have no idea.. The dudes crazy good.

  • @browneye870 One more thing...my take on Adam's picking "style" or "technique" is that it is very similar to a multiple string "strum" pattern that you see/hear him do on the power chords...just converted to single string up/down movements. In other words, imagine someone strumming away on an acoustic guitar...then imagine the same pattern done for just single strings. It's really a unique way to approach rhythm guitar playing.

  • @JosephMCorbett This dude did pretty well. watch?v=5j-ZZ5HOtaE&feature=related Best video I've found so far. It differs from the live video a bit but its a start... hope it helps.

  • @browneye870 Awesome. Yes, that's a great video. And you're right...the tabs are garbage; they get you 75% there if you're lucky. Good eye/ear. Most of the time Adam is picking multiple times when your ear only hears one...or a hammer, etc. For instance on this song, and that riff, the last "3" is hit 4 times in my opinion...look/listen carefully :). I've really got to re-do this, lol. And yes, Adam is better than everyone thinks he is...he's doing stuff we can't even hear :).

  • @webshadow69 Hey, thanks. My cover sounds similar, but I know it isn't the way Adam plays it. I'm tuned differently, and at some point I plan on re-learning the song with the correct tuning. That being said, the notes I'm playing from 0:00 to 0:10 are:

    E: 4 (volume up)

    E: 2 0 2 4 2 4

    A: 2

    E: 4 2

Of course it won't sound right without the timing and a similar tone. Hope this helps. Good luck.

  • Nice cover man, pretty awesome ;D

One thing I don't get, what are the notes at the begining of the song? those between 0:00 and 0:10. I would really appreciate it if you give me those notes.

and keep up with the good work
