For a rifle that is 70 percent original, a Doug Turnbull full restoration will increase the value of the firearm by three to five times, stated Ed Mast, an auctioneer with First Western Auction. Doug Turnbull
Restorations quality is usually much better than when the gun originally left the factory by a lot. (at Reno SCI 2010)

  • Been to the shop many times. Doug makes custom guns and he restores guns. Two different animals. He restored a 1911 "Black Army" .45 for me that looks like it just came off the line, inspector's marks and all. Want your old gun to look exactly like the day it was made? He will do that perfectly.Want a custom gun with engraving, gold inlay & fancy wood with carving & checkering? He does that too, beautifully. Whatever he does, he does perfectly. No bull, Turnbull!

  • I think that's a little over the top. I have seen a lot of Turnbull guns and they are not restorations, they are customizations. Shinned up like like a diamond ring but nothing close to original. Don't find them that valuable personally regardless of what others have paid.
