This 1974 documentary produced in the era before video cameras chronicles the tradition of home movies in American family folklore. It explores the common themes in family films, and features three individual families as they watch their home movies, suggesting how these documents structure family memory.

Ahh, 37 (8?) years gone by and it stills touches and inspires. And Amen to the comment below. Would it be that we all would have that wisdom in the moment that often comes too late, or doesn't come without the perspective of time gone by. Well done, EES, you shone then as you do now!

Why is it always the "other" times, the "old" times that we look on with such fondness?

I think nostalgia lends itself to a certain degree of sentimentality, and with that comes that warm, sometimes sweet, other times bittersweet emotion of memory, that you feel deep down in your stomach upon reminiscence.

But this film reminded me we need to learn to better cherish THIS moment, and don't leave it to a film to remind us of what we value the most. Love the memories as they happen.
