  • If you haven't seen "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown" by now...get it!!! It's a fantastic documentary with several great vocalists performing with most of the original FUNK BROTHERS. THOSE cats were totally AMAZING!!! Their talent...their stories...their love...and sadly, the tragedies and injustices they suffered from both themselves, and the powers-that-be. THESE cats...WOW!!! Second to none!! Barry Gordy owes EVERYTHING to the FUNK BROTHERS!!!

  • Joan's voice is amazing...even in this relaxed setting...wow....the girl is touched by God.

  • @thegirl44 Gerald Levert, Bootsy Collins, and Joan Osborne brought their A-games to the Funk Bros.!!! All three performed flawlessly. Here's the "Str8 Skinny" in my opinion: The Funk Brothers can make anyone sound better. I would LOVE to sing "My Girl"..."What Becomes of the Broken Hearted"..."Ain't too Proud to Beg" with those LEGENDS!!

  • @jabnhook2 you said it best....I'm just NOW learning about the Funk Brothers...and I've lost mine mind...can not get enough and I have "Standing In The Shadows Of Motown"

  • @talex42 That's Ben Harper singing Heard it through the Grapevine in the movie. The dude with the sequins is Bootsy Collins, fantastic bass player... look up some old clips from early seventies of Bootsy. He was determined to put on a great show with these guys... While there were some fantastic performances all around, Joan Osborne sang with a love for these guys and their music that was well beyond everyone else in the documentary. I'm sure that's why she hit the road with them afterward.

  • rest in peace Richard Pistol Allen

  • I believe that's Bootsy Collins...haven't seen it in awhile, but Bootsy is in the documentary somewhere.

  • TURN THE TAPE ON!!!

  • @jabnhook2 Am watching it right now, excellent, almost finished. Who's the guy who sings Marvin Gay's song Heard it through the Grapevine? And is that Rick James in purple sequins???

  • @jabnhook2 co-sign on this statement... the title of "greatest band in the world" may be applied to one or two popular bands (depending on who you ask) but the funk brothers are it...hands down.
