This week's IBTV Inside Peek goes behind the scenes to interview Russell Panczenko, director of the Chazen Museum of Art. The state's second-largest art museum opened an expanded wing on Oct. 22 that more than doubled the gallery space. The beautiful, privately funded, $43 million addition to the original 1970 Harry Weese-designed building was designed by Machado and Silvetti Associates of Boston, working along with the architect of record, Continuum Architects + Planners of Milwaukee. The design carefully integrates the two wings of the museum through a clever panoramic gallery bridge with a dramatic floor-to-ceiling view of the Union and Lake Mendota. The expansion has added gallery space for the museum's permanent collection on the third floor and also temporary gallery space on the first and second floors. In addition, the museum expansion includes a new larger gift shop, 160-seat auditorium, and study rooms for works on paper and other objects of art.
