Essex contractor Long Agriplant was filmed sowing winter beans near Hatfield Peverel on December 31st, 2008, using a modified He-Va Subsoiler/packer pulled behind a 195hp Fendt 818 Vario. The combination was sowing the variety Wizard at a rate of 200kg/ha, and at a forward speed of about 7km/hr in quite heavy ground. Daily workrates of more than 30ha have been achieved by the firm, which has spent the past year perfecting the system.

  • Is that better than drilling them on the surface and then ploughing them down?
