"ymmmm"??? You mean um/ummmm right?
-
Presentation interesting, but all those "ymmmm" are nuisance. Average 12 "ymmmm" per minute, which gives avg 1 per 5 secs. I challenge you to count them all.

@lewaldman Not a problem. I had to look it up myself LOL!

@Joe11Blue Wa... True.
Thanks for the correction! :))

@lewaldman Pixar switched to Linux in 2005.

@Joe11Blue Pixar far sure runs a MacOS Rendering Cluster.
Don't forget that Steve jobs have mor then 51% of shares on the Pixar. (And that MacAs is POSIX compliant :P)

Is it possible to render with 3d max on a FreeBSD cluster?

nice cluster and a nice presentation about it, thanks!
It kinda reminds me of the time I had to drag a server with a sparking power supply out of our dc ;)

It is possible through emulation to run Window's on top of FreeBSD. However 3DS Max, note the S, is capable of exporting it's filesets to a FreeBSD cluster for rendering.
This is how most major production houses do it at least. I know Pixar runs a POSIX compliant OS, not sure which variant of *nix it is, but most likely it's a BSD derivative.
