Sounds like it should be the subject of another movie. The most important thing is to preserve diversity of heirloom crops which have thinned out drastically over the last 100 years. Most GM innovations would come from existing genetics that evolved naturally, and if there is not diversity, monocultures eventually die of new diseases that emerge, and man is not as smart or as quick as nature. For instance, our current banana is expected to succumb to Panama disease in near future.
I think the amount of copper needed is very small, and as far as i know copper is not bad for soil (and if it were this wouldn't be used by organic farmers, c'mon.) But yes mining is always going to leech all sorts of nasties, but it isn't from the copper but from arsenic and heavy metals, as i understand it.
GM crops is a different issue as far as I'm concerned, with different pluses and minuses. I think it's important at this point to say these are my own opinions and not nec.FRF
They use things like copper and natural pesticides. You get nutrients from composting, earthworms and other methods. The chemicals are not harmful to humans, allow for ecosystems to thrive instead of killing everything, and they are not derived from petroleum for instance. Non-organic farming is more productive, but it's also causing huge problems and isn't the only way to go.
Nothing changed, why farmers grow whet, rice, grape for centuries. Those are allergenic. Look at their faces- the territorial bustards. Great topic thou. But I would drink from apple or cherry. Why it is so difficult. Its not so bed as we leaving in the asbestos building and dully chanting "ziek hail". Think before you sell your grape. No one animal eats grape or chewing grains (even birds just swallow it). I think your not so helpful as well...
@firstrunfeaturesnyc you have to remember that the banana isnt a natural plant/fruit/herb whatever the fuck that creepy tasty thing is... : )
we made it from the i think its called the Patang....sorry brain fart...
man is faster than nature when it comes to selecting the already natural genes...
but like you said what to do when they no longer exist...
well despite everything we have done to plants we have a collection of all the seeds in the world (80 percent ongoing)
just in case....

@firstrunfeaturesnyc I heard the amish are using Genetically Modified crops all round...(Hypocrites)
anyways they say its like a tool......like the scythe....or hoe.....
and they seem to make the most organic products you can get....
anyways "copper pesticides" are far from natural...they require copper mines....
and what is copper doing to the soil?

@firstrunfeaturesnyc organic itself is a load of crap....(the same chemicals are identical)
but by herbicide i mean stuff like pepper sprays (organic)
organic farming doesnt use chemical fertilizers?
how does the soil stay full of nutrients?
and you have to remember this isnt 500 years ago when only 100 million people existed...
this will leech the soil dry....
but on the other hand too much use of fertilizers can fuck the oceans....
go with the latter and fix the run off problem... peace

this isnt inorganic vs organic......
first off....he probably used an illegal herbicide....
second....your soil sucks because year after year you use it you dont replace what the bacteria need......
if you get the nitrogen fixing bacteria working full time again....
you will be laughing.....
go inorganic.....but stay legal.....
