It has long been our desire to produce the majority of our food at home. With the move to our new homestead, we are much closer to this goal. We were pleasantly surprised to find old blackberries already here laden with berries. Here we are as a family picking them.

  • looks yummie! love your videos. I am very interested transitioning my way of life over to homesteading/permaculture to reduce my footprint on the planet and retain a greater portion of my income. My question to you is, does one need to be employed to sustain a homestead or can a homestead be ran without a major source of income? thanks in advance! :)

  • Thank you for your comment. It is difficult to live without income in our society and due to laws and restrictions it is hard to make money of your homestead. We have only been doing this for a few years and find it very rewarding but it is a challenge as the system does not really conducive to homesteading,

  • however, with raising gas and food prices and a system that is in decline I think it will be easier to homestead in the future. We have a wide variety of resources and link on our POTF website and blog.

  • By the way, what do you mean by a winter garden? We are still trying to find out exactly how cold it tends to get here in the mountains...

  • Thank you for all of your kind comments and for taking an interest in our work. We are going to make videos about making various dairy products. The first one will be about making kefir and we hope to make it soon. We are putting resources on our pocketsofthefuture()com website and related blog as quickly as we can. Starting a garden keeps eluding us as other projects get in the way but my wife is determined to eventually have a very substantial garden including many more berry bushes.

  • I assume there are no gardens starting because of moving in the summer. Are you going to plant gardens and trees next year? Are you going to have a winter garden? I'd love to see how ya'll make cheese and other milk products from your cows. Looks like your place has lots of potential with lots of hard work! Good luck with everything.
