Nice play pen. You should replace the pine shavings with Aspen shavings because it's not good for them.

You should not use plastic items in your cage because if they chew it and some goes down in the stomach they could die or it just be very unhealthy. Just think logic - Plastic is made by oil.

The gerbils will chew through plastic and this can make them very ill. If your gerbil is seen chewing it's plastic toys/tubes, remove it immediently and buy them a woodblock instead.

@mars8254 gerbils can have regular cages, just make sure they are the half inch spaced bars and it has to be ALL metal. no plastic, as they will chew their way out. but youll have shavings kicked all over the house and it wont be able to have deep enough bedding for them to play in. Aquariums they cant chew their way out and you can give them a good 2-3+ inches to burrow in and make tunnels. they pretty much will spend their time running on a wheel or digging and playing.

@foxmx98 ive always had a wheel for my gerbils. i just put it in at intervals :)
