My nv4500 came from a 92 Chevy 2wd. It is stuck in 4th gear and I can't get it out of gear. Before my tranny screwed up it was breaking the clutch master and slave cylinders or it would blow off the line between both the cylinders. No one has been able to give me a straight answer. I still have this this 4500 and I plan on using it on an upcoming build where I plan on divorcing a NP208c behind it. Does anybody have any ideas?

@7654321rebecca Drilling a hole in the main shaft as you suggest would weaken the shaft by causing what is called a "stress riser" . The shaft is very hard steel and would be tough to drill. People have welded the gear on, not only does welding cause a stress riser but takes the temper ( strength/ hardnes) out of the shaft which cause them to fail even faster.

Try putting groove in output shaft and apply a split ring in front to keep nut in pace works well 1999 dodge 3500 2499067 km's and holding
does your cutting and then putting a screw in it work as a good fix?

@zman4ish I've actually never bothered to permanently fix mine. Mine has a nut with the allenhead tighteners so you can tighten the nut, then tighten them to get it extra tight. I get about 50k miles out of it before it works loose. I want to rebuild the trans and put a fully splined shaft in it (permanent fix). I would really like to TIG it but that puts a lot of time into getting it back off to rebuild it..

what about lock tight?

@uther56 I know I didn't list all the possible fixes. Locktite won't do anything, people tack weld them and they still break. I have heard people having good luck using cotter pins and the like.
