I still have not been further west than ohio, so I can't really say for certain, but I can kind of get sick of the claustrophobic nature of NYC and Long Island, so maybe I'd prefer the west. I like the area north of that, spread out a bit, but with big enough cities where there is still plenty to do and see. I wonder if in california there are places like that. I've always wanted to visit there.

As a Californian it's entertaining to hear you call North Dakota and Montana "West." I mean I guess it is and whatnot but out here we consider it the middle.

Audiobooks are a fabulous way to pass the time. I have yet to drive west, but I have flown to Las Vegas, and I almost feel a culture shock when I land in a desert trying to disguise itself as a large, crowded tropical island.
