The Doobie Bros also use double drums way back there and one of the pioneers of the twin lead guitars was Wishbone Ash,and they're still playing to this day.

Good info. I'd always thought that the first popular instance of double drums went back to the Seconds Out album by Genesis when they brought in Chester Thompson.

Sorry Michael, Dix and Yoho never played double-drums together in the Outlaws at the same time until 1975. By that time Butch Trucks Jai Johanny Johanson had been playing together, both as founding members of the Allman Brothwers, since the band's inception in 1969. So the fact is that the Allman Brothers pioneered the double-drummer sound in Southern Rock and the Outlaws, who were actually better with only one drummer, followed suit. Great band, though, and a GREAT song!

Good eye. Outlaws pioneered that. Allmans, Skynard & a few others did this. You can get so much backing sound from this setup. More dynamics. Really plays well with the dual lead guitars. That was another thing they did. Allmans, Skynard, Thin Lizzy did well. 2 Actual lead guitars, not a lead & rhythm. Other kickass bands that followed with dual leads:Scorps, Priest, Maiden, Def Leppard. Most US bands went to just 1 lead or lead/rhythm. These old groups are my favorites.
