There seems to be a lack of videos on Youtube of vintage bicycles so I decided to upload one myself. This bicycle is great to ride around town and when I get a rear rack with collapsible baskets I hope to use it to run errands and pick up things from the local stores. The seat is not near as comfortable as I thought it would be so I hope to buy a Brooks saddle for it.

  • i got one for 20$. its pretty crappy right know (before I restore it!) it is a 1976 Schwinn speedster.

  • Congrats! I love mine. I tool around town on it and use it for quick jaunts to the store.

  • Nice bike. You don't see many Schwinns here in England, although I understand an importer is planning to bring in some of the heavy cruisers. This looks quite light, with its narrow tyres. How old is the bike?

  • It is 36 years old. Almost as old as I am.

  • Very nice. I just purchased one just like it and an awaiting its delivery. Are you going to do any restoration or keep it as is?

  • I don't think I'm going to restore it. It's in pretty good shape as is. I love it!

  • I have a 73 speedster the same color too, but what has me stumped is how your frame is straight but mine is curved, i heard someone call it a camel back style. I know its a 73 though because i looked up the serial number. Anyone here know why my frame is curved? Thanks in advance.

  • I have a 79 model, the rear wheel has a little fill/drain plug on it, I was wondering what type of lube is this for? I would think oil would run right out of the thing.

  • i have one exactly the same but mine has the front light and rear one too soon i might make a video so i could share it.

  • wow

  • what's the difference between this and a schwinn racer, if you don't mind me asking?

  • lol im so happy to see this i have the same one but a girl one tho arnt they so beutiful mine is the exact same :)

  • i just bought one at a garage sale yesterday for $15. it was rusty and dirty and i just ordered me some S6 tires which will give me time to clean and service the bike. i bought it so i have something to cruise on around the neighborhood and parks. i want it somewhat rusty so it's less attractive to steal.

it's too dorky for most people to steal anyway. just what i wanted.

  • Wow, thats a nice bike. I just picked up a 77 today. Red and its in IMMACULATE shape. I bought mine off CL, too for $50. Even from the original owner!

  • Love those Chicago Schwinns!! Last summer I found a pair of 1976 Collegiates at a yard sale for $150. The ladies bike was absolutely perfect. The mens bike has a couple chips in the paint but the chrome and stainless are perfect. I detailed them, serviced the bearings and now they ride and shift like new. We get looks and compliments any time we take them out for a ride. Thanks for posting your video

  • We are a schwinn family, I have a 76 speedster in great cond, my 14 year old has a 59 speedster, my 12 year old has a 65 speedster with the camel hump bar, my youngest has a 75 stingray and my wife has a super sweet two speed Hollywood. We love our bikes so much, lucky to live in such a bike friendly state of Oregon!
