Something gives me the idea that many of the people who were sent this DVD never bothered to watch it.

I'm in gippsland, about 10 minutes from Churchill, and it was insane like that here, extreme winds, crazy ass heat, and then smoke cover. Within 2 hours I went from laying in bed hoping no fires started, to sitting at my grandparents with my stuff hoping my house didn't get fucked up... With NO sky.

And we'll ignore the fact that blackhawks are stationed in north Queensland and not in Melbourne...

If you were in Melbourne that day you would understand. It was so hot 48c where I was and the wind was unbelievable. You couldnt prepare for this. it was just crazy.
That bit at around 2:50 - 3:00 was a ridiculous example, it was a township... Show an area like mine, where the bush is so thick, within minutes the town would be gone, on a day like Black Saturday

The video is targeted at people living on urban / rural interfaces - hence the title "Living on the Edge".
If you feel your home is not defendable on a high fire danger day then you need to leave early (the night before or early in the morning). Even if this is your plan you still need to do everything you can to make your home more defendable as you may not have enough time to leave if a fire starts near your home. If a fire is in your area the most dangerous place to be is outside or in a car.

Its too late now but next time the government should be prepared ready to evacuate anyone with black hawk helicopters in the line of fire. This was a foreseen event and yet the government made no provisions for evacuations. We send troops and helicopters to war to defend our nation and yet we dont do the same to protect our citizens.
God bless Australia and the real heroes the cfa and all emergency crews.
The government stood by and did nothing.

Mate, there were thousands of people in line of the fire and there was so much smoke that helicopters could not have operated safely. We all want quick easy solutions but there aren't any. The energy released by the fire is estimated to be equivalent to 10 atomic bombs. If you knew an atomic bomb was about to go off could you evacuate everyone in its path in helicopters?
