Alabama 33, Ole Miss 32 (Oct. 4, 1969)
(Legion Field, Birmingham)
In one of the greatest games in college football history, Alabama out-dueled Ole Miss 33-32 at Birmingham's Legion Field and a national TV (ABC) audience. Alabama's Scott Hunter led the Crimson Tide to a thrilling one-point win over Ole Miss junior Archie Manning. Hunter completed 22 of 29 passes for 300 yards, including the game-winning 14-yard TD pass to Meridian, Miss., native George Ranager with 3:42 left in the game. Manning was less than disappointing in defeat, completing 33 of 52 passes for a then school-record 436 yards in the loss.
Possibly greatest Bama win ever. Two REALLY GREAT QB's!!

Ole Miss lost because they forgot to wear the jerseys with the red circles from the shoulder to the arm pits.

I have the actual TV footage of this game on DVD. Got it from Leon Felts, the running back of Ole Miss a few years ago. My favorite game of all times.

I was in school at Ole Miss and was at the game. Was the best game that two quarterbacks ever played opposite of each other. Chris Schenkel was asked twenty years after that game what his favorite college game was that he announced and he said the Ole Miss/Alabama game of 1969. Archie was on the losing team but was voted most Valuable Player, as he had almost 600 yards running and passing that day.

Texas-Arkansas may have been the Game of the Century, but Bama-Ole Miss was definitely the Game of the Year in 1969.

I was there as a little boy. What a game!!! At that time, I thought Archie Manning was unreal.

I was 8 yrs old but I remember this game. Even remembered the score. Not a Bama or Ole Miss fan (LSU) but I remember this being a really good game.
