China: Death toll in Xinjiang riot rises to 140, still climbing 中国新疆骚乱140人死亡

URUMQI, July 6 (Xinhua) -- The death toll has risen to 140 following Sunday night's riot in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the regional government said Monday.

Fifty-seven people were confirmed dead on the scene and all the others died later at hospital, a spokesman of the regional government said at a press conference on Monday.

He said the death toll would still be climbing.

据了解，民族分裂分子热比娅为首的世界维吾尔代表大会近日通过互联网等多种渠道煽动闹事要勇敢一点、要出点大事。７月５日２０时左右，一些人在乌鲁木齐市人民广场、解放路­、大巴扎、新华南路、外环路等多处猖狂地打砸抢烧。截止到２３时３０分，已造成多名无辜群众和一名武警被杀害，部分群众和武警受伤，多部车辆被烧毁，多家商店被砸被烧。有­关部门负责同志指出，事实表明，这是一起由境外遥控指挥、煽动，境内具体组织实施，有预谋、有组织的暴力犯罪。新疆维吾尔自治区党委、政府高度重视，及时调集警力处置。目­前，事态已经得到控制。

140人在中国西部的新疆地区发生的骚乱中死亡。

官方的新华社说，星期天发生在新疆首府乌鲁木齐的冲突造成至少800人受伤，报道说已经有几百人被逮捕。
