The plan, which highlights a once neglected 3,000-acre portion of the oldest section of the city, preserves historic architectural styles, neighborhood diversity and the areas unique social fabric. It has restored environmental stability and beauty, attracted jobs, improved services like education and healthcare, reduced dependence on car travel, promoted recreation, diminished the foundations of crime and poverty, and strengthened the sense of pride many North Charleston residents feel towards their community.
