I was working inside the Sheriff's maintenance yard about a year ago.
They've added some serious bullet proofing and armor to some of their vehicles!

In military lingo a 50cal m2 is still considered a light weapon -20mm (80 cal) is starting the heavy weapons on up .With the Mexico Humvee with 30cal & 50cal crossing the border it is smart to have a 50 cal m2 to engage light armor vehicles and keep the RPG teams back.
