In what is to be the biggest storm that the DC metro area has seen, there have been reports of snow lightning. I've never heard or seen of this. While shoveling snow it happened. My daughter went in and got the camera, my husband put it on the tripod and went to turn off the light. My daughter had just started the video when the snow lightning flashed through the sky again. It was amazing. Happend three more times in the six minutes we let the camera roll. Footage of Washington DC's record breaking snow storm starting Feb 5, 2010 @ 10 am.

  • You realize it's a transformer blowing somewhere... Right? This "lightning" is always accompanied by power outages. Now you know why, because it isn't lightning, it's transformers going boom.

  • @bohicadeus considering it happened multiple times- it really couldn't have been a transformer.

  • @djruby99 That is 100% untrue. We had a transformer do exactly what is in this video for 5 minutes off and on last night. In this video, it's more than likely a transformer blowing. I can almost GUARANTEE that some power outages happened in the area where you filmed this.

  • @bohicadeus it happened for a pretty long period of time. No power outages near us. I'd say it happened on and off for about 45 minutes or more. It came and went quickly. There is no way a transformer blowing could create such a thing for such a spread out amount of time.

  • Hey, i'm in the picture! I stumbled across this. I'm the guy from up the street! That noise in the distance Was in fact the the thunder. It sounded more like an old transformer buzz. That night and those experiences will always be imprinted in me mind!

  • @icycooladdict That's pretty cool that you found this! What a wild storm. It was pretty awesome to be out in the snow when the sky lit up. As you heard I was pretty excited! ha! I clipped out the four flashes that happened in those 5 minutes and put them up on CNN IReport. Search for DKoontz.

  • I expect this in places like america (just because of its climate) but to see this in england was a WTF moment never heard of this until now. there has been a few rumbles and brilliant blue flashes and forks (land strikes) i want more

  • nice, im out in California and about 10 mins ago this happened! i just about droped my laptop. So i started youtube'in to see if i could find a video of it. It was incredible to see it. It did it 3 times with in about 2 mins.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!

  • Hahaha I live in the DC area too i was shoveling the side walk at like 10 at night and when i saw it and came back inside FOX 5 was tring to say that it was aliens.. IM like nice try

  • This happened about 5 times in NY last night, there was smaller flashes too. It effected the power lines and blew a transformer, i'm saying the flash was from the transformer blowing, the flash blew the transformer.
