I thought I would interrupt my ice posts with a political statement again! (oh no!!) Tim was a great roller skating champion. Thirty years ago if you showed this tape to an ice skater, they would have thought it looked rather odd. It's a bit clunky, and the jump technique is 'different'. High speed rotation in the air is clearly a needed skill. I don't think any young skater today watching this would see any difference at all in the ice technique. The double axels today have lost all 'height', and practically copy Tim's technique. All the FLUTZ, LUTZ controversies don't seem to bother roller skaters. In fact, Randy can't even identify a triple flip or a triple lutz (second jump). I suspect they are the same jump.
I still stand in literal AWE, of many of the things roller skaters achieve out there. I often wondered why travelling camels never really transferred to ice, until lately. And i absolutely LOVE the way they do "toe loops' (just sort of a lazy kick around.......so neat!!!)
Oh well, just some evidence how a roller skating technique has infiltrated figure skating.....for better or worse. I have a series of roller skating posts from the period I am posting on k9henrydog3 (in the next week or so). I have been promising them to a roller skating fan of mine for a very long time. I hope you forgive the delay, Jo Ann!!!!!! I hope my fans in Argentina and Brazil enjoy this as well. best wishes
