You need to install Insomnia for that. Turn it on and than turn on the backgrounder.
Insomnia keeps your connection on.

you'll get kicked off aim after 10 minutes of being inactive EVEN when using backgrounder from the cydia...it's just something APPLE has got to get on NOW. Should have never been a problem if they said they were going to never need an update...haha
