Hurricane Irene had passed, but the destruction as related by the media was emmense. Leaves, which may have been dead for weeks, had been blown several centimeters, the water lingered for about 20 minutes after the storm, and widespread looting was noted as people in my parking lot were seen removing groceries from cars - presumably vehicles that may or may not have belonged to them. What a terrifying night!

  • This was deep within the clutches of Hurricane Irene near the Chesapeake Bay. I was close enough to the Bay to see the six inch swells. This was only seven feet less than what CNN was predicting, but ferocious nonetheless. I don't know how we made it through the night. My neighbor suffered worse than I did. She had a styrofoam cup fall over during the intense storm.
