I've been involved in my school choir for seven years running. This is from our live concert on June 9th, 2010 and probably one of the most beautiful choral songs I've ever been lucky enough to perform. Sung by the MHS Choraliers (all-female, auditioned after-school group), in which I sing alto. Hope you enjoy! LYRICS BELOW!

(Psst: Phantom of the Opera fans, I made a music video to this song on my regular Liveforlife2494 channel!)

[Antares is the name of a star, and Moriah is a colloquial name for a wind.]

"The Poet Sings", arranged by Z. Randall Stroope in memory of Nancy Peck

She's somewhere in the sunlight strong,
Her tears are in the falling rain,
She calls me in the winds soft song,
And with the flowers she comes again.

The loneliness and misery
Are silenced by a melody
She's somewhere and I hear her sing,
Her words in timeless memory:

"Stay the course,
Light a star,
Change the world where'er you are."

Somewhere the night winds carries her,
A silver moon beam lights her way.
Antares is her messenger,
And every sun and moon her stay.

Dark voices from the shadows call,
But listen and her voice recall:

Moriah!
Moriah!

"Stay the course,
Light a star,
Change the world where'er you are."

She's somewhere and I hear her sing
Her words in timeless memory:

"Stay the course,
Light a star,
change the world where'er you are."

  • @lilybean88 How awesome! When I was in the middle school choir, we were crazy good, probably because our director was overqualified and totally awesome. I wish my high school cared more about the performing arts--our program is good, but small. Everybody's more into sports. Being a super-artsy person myself, I'm so happy that there are still schools that are really into the performing arts! And thank you for that last comment. Best of luck! <3

  • My middle school group is going to sing this song. (I know it's a high school piece, but the arts are taken very seriously at my school and our choirs are crazy good. Also, it's going to be all girls singing this piece.) I hope we sound as good as your group! :)

  • @MimiRawrr1234 [Eternalflame7426 on her regular channel] I've heard people say that before. I've also heard other choirs sing it as "Mor-ee-ah", so obviously there's some disagreement as to which is the right pronunciation. I suspect you may be right, though. Thanks! :)

  • Sounds awesome. My choir did this song, too. But moriah isn't pronounced as Maria. It's pronounced moh-reye-uh.

  • @minniemousemayhem Awesome! I'm really glad to hear that! Glad that you and your group could pull it off so well, I'm sure it was wonderful <3
