  • Sorry, forgot about some cars like Our beloved R.I.P SAAB (I live in sweden) DKW, Goliath, Lloyd, Trabant, Tjeckoslovakian made "Minor" and many others....

  • OK, I checked it up! Of course You´re right! (I think we can exclude racing and experimental cars) Alvis did produce a FWD car in 1928, the Cord was introduced in 1929. None of those were made in great numbers though.

The funny thing is that FWD never became popular outside France until the Mini was introduced in 1959.

The Americans came up with the FWD Oldsmobile Toronado in 1966 that had 385 hp!

  • @campingkillen

Alvis made the first front-wheel drive car.

  • Love the traction avant, but "first prodoction car with front wheel drive"? No!

I´m not sure if the Cord L-29 was first, but it was introduced like five years prior to the Citroen!

They did not make 1/2 a million of them though, and it was more beautiful than reliable......

  • This dolt doesn't understand that a torsion bar IS a spring.

And what is it with the Brit reverence for French cars...they make American cars look like the standard for reliability.

  • Wow my comment is the last one 2 months ago LOL

  • VACATION!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!

  • One of the most beautiful cars ever made was the Traction Avant. The original DS is a bit too "futuristic" looking, even though the DS's aerodynamics is still one of the most aerodynamic car bodies ever produced.

It's nice to see that the video ends with one of the ugliest looking cars ever.

  • A legendary car built during 23 years. This traction is really beautiful!

  • I bought it in Manchester and it broke down on the M62 on the way back to Leeds. A piston was replaced by dad (of Merlin engine fame) and I took it down to the West Midlands when I moved there. I did a little to keep it on the road, but didn't have the space or finance to give it that TLC that it needed, and sadly sold it to raise a deposit for my first house! Regretted ever since. It was unusual in being French built right hand drive! Where are you now?
