  • That's AWESOME! I was there, but missed it! :( I have a Borzoi...but he's retarded, LOL I'm assuming that's a female? Are they easier to train than males? My boy would never fetch or anything like that. It took me almost a year to teach him to sit, lay down, play dead. And we're still working on coming when he's called. ;)

  • Hi! THANK YOU so much for your compliment! :-) Sorry you missed us! Yes, Jelly is a female. I seem to have gravitated towards the females. However, I think it really just depends on the dog itself vs sex. I have a couple of awesome males -one of which is like he knows everything before I even train him to do it! How old is your boy? Do you "clicker" train?

  • I'm so happy and thrilled everyone has been enjoying seeing what a Borzoi can do! Hopefully it will inspire people who have ANY breed of dog to train their dogs! Thank you all for your compliments!

  • I've had Borzois for years and always thought the females were more easily trained until just last month I got a 4 month old male from Hungary who learned to shake on the second try, consistently retrieves (like a Labrador) , learned to sit on the second try, rolls over and comes at a whistle. And all this without any training mechanisms.

This Borzoi is unlike anything I have seen. A real genius.

  • Jelly! What a wonderful name and what a beautiful dog! Great training, I have a huge greyhound boy who won't do anything! He's been tried and tested and just couldn't be bothered =]

  • woah, I've never seen a borzoi roll over. i think it pained mine to do so.

  • I just love watching borzoi that have been "trained". This one is clearly only doing it out of love for the mommy. He's not particularly enthused about doing this "stuff".

Mine is the same way. He'll do it, but he ain't gonna make a big deal out of it or anything!

It's why I love borzoi. Someone here is right. They won't do it, until you prove to them that there's a good reason why.

    Kudos!

  • Ooh, I LOVE Borzoi! I'm hoping to get a boy in a couple months from Shefaro, a breeder in Texas. They just had a litter a few days ago.

  • Wow! My borzois won't "fetch" anything unless it's alive and they can kill it! Neighbors' cats, unfortunate deer, my own poultry... Although they do enthusiastically sing on command. But that's about it. This is pretty amazing.

  • Borzoi are quite independent. However probably not any less independent as many other breeds out there. But those kinds of breeds can be more challenging to train. One has to be creative and give them a "reason" to learn. If they could talk they would probably say ".. .and you want me to do this, why?"

Is this challenge worth it? OH YES! :-)

  • Are Borzoi known to be a particularly difficult dog to train?
