@WonderfulDenmark We just bought Saltpeter at the totally-suburban neighborhood drug store. Either a small cardboard can for fifty cents, or a Morton salt-sized cardboard can (1 lb.?) for a few bucks. But, remember, that was in the past (50's and 60's). Now, everyone is hysterical about components that could make gunpowder. In spite of the fact that you can just go to the sporting goods store and buy gunpowder.

@riverguy9 Where did you get saltpeter from? i've looked everywhere and I can't find it.

My experience (from when I was 12) is that two parts sugar and one part saltpeter (potassium nitrate) produces a much better reaction in an open can: huge white mushroom cloud. Fun, anyway!

Cool, just add an organic dye (that can sublimate) and it will be absolutely super!

@mraiford I know someone that made a somewhat small but heavy ( takes two people co carry ) cannon that shoots spark plugs. His neighbors didnt care for the noise but didnt like it when a spark plug hit the their garage lol.

So, you've moved to exploring pyro chemistry rather than popping capacitors and frying electronics with high voltage, I see :)
Actually, chemistry is a very dear passion of mine. This pleases me XD
BTW, the part of NZ you are in is absolutely beautiful!

@mraiford Electrical pops will happen too, just not enough hours in the day.
