Two plays from a high school football game. Do you see what the officiating crew saw? The first, a complete pass, was called back for an ineligible receiver downfield. The second call was a block below the waist. You make the call - are they ticky-tack or deserved?

  • 2nd one was not a good call. initial contact was above the waste.

  • I don't know about the first one, but as a former O-Lineman then I'd have to say it was not a bad call, but not a good one either. Yes I do think technically he was down field, but it was a little tacky. The 2nd call was a good call.

  • I didn't see anything. Both looked clean to me.

  • First call-crap. RT bordered (at best) on perhaps going out of the expand NZ. Even assuming he did go beyond it was only a result of B avioding contact and A's momentum took him there; he turned around once he went past - if he went past at all. why is HL making that call to begin with? - It's the U's call.

Second call is borderline call, but appears contact was made at the waist if not above and kid slid down. why even block that way downfield at all?

  • The correct call was made on the 2nd play, not the 1st. The lead blocker at the end of play #2 commits an Illegal Block Below The Waist. The first play for an Ineligibale Receiver downfield was not a good call. The blocker popped beyond the LOS but was in the Neutral Zone Expanded and engaged in his block when the ball was thrown.

  • My comments got all mixed up here. LJ what are u calling the opposite offensive tackle for ineligible downfield when he was engaged with a defender less than 2 yards downfield. Thats fishing for fouls there!

  • Trust your partner as the LJ did not call anything and unfortunately since you had no BJ (well, where is the umpire on this play? LOL-smirtk!) you should have passed unless it was SO FLAGRANT which it WAS NOT! Get a white cap out there next time!

I would guarantee that many knowledgeable and experienced officials would agree with me. Im glad this was posted to show officials young through experienced on what should and should NOT be called!!

  • White cap, ehrr, black cap referee what the heck are you throwing your flag on what you CLEARLY did NOT SEE the WHOLE play on what you called a low block. The offensive player engaged (maybe with an illegal helmet but still) ABOVE the waist of the defender a number of yards ahead of the runner. You Mr. Referee were 10 yards plus BEHIND the PLAY...you couldn't even throw the flag you were so far and so many other bodies were in between what you called in front of the runner.

  • Now granted the UMPIRE did NOT do his job in recognizing that it was a passing play and decided to be a backjudge. A good HS evaluator would note these so that the officials would get better. I would hate to think that these offcials do college.

  • I agree on both
