I'd like to thank the Federation for this great honor. I'd also like to thank William Shatner. Bill, I don't think you realize what an enormous impact you've had on me...
I call the common human requirement for external stimuli; anthrosensual addiction.
Have you seen the movie Serenity? You're almost describing Miranda;
"The G-23 Paxilon Hydrochlorate that we added to the air processors. It was supposed to calm the population,... it works. The people here stopped fighting. And then they stopped everything else... There's 30 million people here, and they all just let themselves die. "
@premed2 "so a person without external stimulus will gradually become disorganized. possibly suffering irreversible damage."
Fuck... that's a perfect explanation for why things are rather shitty. That's what religion and statism do, and replace with indoctrination that ultimately reduces to just that: disorganized and suffering irreversible damage.
Don't believe I've heard the phrase spiritual responsibility before, but I think of things more in terms of physiology, and conditioning. We don't end where our body ends. We evolved to interact with the environment. Just as the brain does not function without the body (we cannot create a functioning brain in a jar without also creating a pseudo-body), so a person without external stimulus will gradually become disorganized. possibly suffering irreversible damage.
@premed2 Yes, and I just gave you the least important spoiler of the movie.
It's a very cerebral action sci-fi. Give it a watch.

@SomethingSea1 That's because becoming disorganized and possibly suffering irreversible damage is cool.

Got it from "Chasing The Wild Pendulum".
"so a person without external stimulus will gradually become disorganized. possibly suffering irreversible damage."
