This is Walter's 65 java green beetle. "Louise" is a stock 65 type 1 that was restored about 3 years ago. She has a roof rack, vent windows, and a refurbished sapphire 1 radio. 12v conversion of course

  • working on my bug same year and one day your cooler! loved it :D

  • love the bug man keep em alive dont chop them up

  • And yes you might have to grind some of the inside of some bell housings. Mine happened to fit fine.

  • This is a really nice Bug!

  • I have a 59 Baja that I wired from end to end myself and I made it 12 volt. I got a 12 volt starter and solenoid and just bought a bushing that allowed the end of the 12 volt narrow shaft to ride correctly in the 6 volt wider housing on the trans axle. The adapter is only a couple bucks.

  • Beautiful car!

I was wondering about the 12v conversion though... Did you keep the 6v starter and just replace the solenoid. If so, would that work on a bigger 1500cc or 1600cc engine as well? Or if you did go with a 12v starter, did you have to mess with the flywheel and the bell housing?

Again, beautiful car. I have my eye on a '61 that looks alot like yours.

  • Your car looks incredible.

  • Your car is beautiful, really cute!
