Princess Elisabeth of Hesse and by Rhine

Princess Elisabeth of Hesse and by Rhine (Prinzessin Elisabeth Marie Alice Viktoria von Hessen und bei Rhein) ( 11 March 1895 6 November 1903) was the only daughter of Ernst Ludwig, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine and his first wife, Princess Victoria Melita of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha.
She was named after her aunt, the Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna of Russia and was also nicknamed Ella after her. Her early death was rumored to be a result of poison meant for her uncle, Tsar Nicholas II, but the court physician said she died of virulent typhoid.

...we wwill see the face of GOD and that all the mysteries of life will be reveiled. i can only hope and pray that i find the faith to believe and trust in what cannot be proven, explained or understood init's fullness. the victorians, among other eras in tiime, were obsessed with death, mourning, and the afterlife. i too am like that...i ponder life, death and all it's ramifications. with this post of this lovly little angel, i am brought back to those feeling again. R.I.P. little angel.

Poor Ernst Ludwig, who lost his beloved child! the gorgeus and adorable princess Elizabeth, such a little beauty, the eyes of Victoria Melita and the elegance of the Grand Duke of Hesse. I heard that Ernst Ludwig never recovered from such a loss, and that even almost 30 years after her death, he still remembered her and missed her, calling her "his sunshine".

What an absolutely beautiful child. from what i read about her she was a precious little girl both outside and inside, the pride of her father. Im almost hipnotized by her gorgeous eyes. The hesses were the victims of a curse, too many children in that family died strange death's incluing the romanovs who were elisabeth's cousings. To die at eight, still just a baby is so tragic. But one can take comfort in knowing she's in heaven with her family. Rest in peace little Elisabeth.

She was a little doll. Shame she died at only eight. Her parents, first cousins oddly, weren't even in love as I've read. It was a marriage of convenience that didn't work out.

this is a truly wonderful video, the song is so amazingly appropriate, it literally could have been written for her- i love it! thanks so much for uploading! its such a pity she didn't grow, we may all complain that we will never know what NAOTMAA would have looked like as they aged, but at least we know what nicholas and alexandra looked like well at middle age, and we were lucky enough to know what OTMA looked like as young women, as for this beautiful german princess we will never know.
