The Wilds Counselor Choir 2010
Song from Thursday night.

Taken from Job 38-41

Heather Sorenson (composer/writer) explains how 'God of Heaven' came about:

"The piece "God of Heaven" was a personal response to my morning devotions a couple months ago. Something that I have been actively working on is to shift my relationship with God from a "give me/bless me/help me" vending machine to learning and knowing who God is. As I was reading through the book of Job during a particularly difficult week, I was hit with the fact that God's response to Job did not include the solutions that I always ask for. God's words to Job didn't specifically offer the hope and comfort that I often beg God for in difficult times. God's response in Job 38-41 was to show who He is. As I moved on to the rest of my day, I sat down to write a completely different song, but I was so moved by who God is, that "God of Heaven" came out instead. I pray that this piece will bless both your choir and your congregation as you continue to build your relationship with God your Father."

  • Hey, does anyone know if this has been recorded on any albums by the Wilds, or Soundforth, etc?

  • @ebony88ivory as far as I know there has not yet been a recording of this song on any album. You can, however, visit jwpepper.com and there is an audio sample you can listen to. It sounds pretty cool with orchestration to it.

  • @ebony88ivory" idk if you know who the Pettit team is ...but they do a recording of it on their cd "come boldly" =]

  • Oops -- saw that you posted that already below.

  • @ebony88ivory It is recorded on the Steve Pettit team's CD titled Come Boldly. It's just ladies' voices there, and I would have preferred the whole team's voices, but it is still beauitful.

  • Sorry 'bout the rant. I just think that mega-choirs sound wrong. Too many voices so true unison is really hard to get. The "extra" noise is distracting. (and if you memorize the piece you won't have the sound of pages turning getting in the way of the music.

    That is all.

  • My choir did this song on our recent tour to Hershey, PA, and in my opinion this piece is much more beautiful with smaller choirs. We only have 30 kids. Also, a way to improve the sound would be with a stronger alto presence. We only have 5 altos but we don't let the 15-or-so sopranos drown us out. And slow down! The words are beautiful and people need time for them to sink in. (BTW, this might be just me but "frag-isle" sounds a whole lot better than "frag-ill")

  • @ebony88ivory

It sure is...we're heading to Internationals this year, catching a ride with Harvest Time on thier bus.

    =)

  • @Salroah7 Yup, been going to RSC at the Wilds since 2006. :) I've graduated now, and enjoy going for the music conference. Isn't it one of the best places on the planet?

  • @bubblebath934 Thank you so much!! :) I love the Pettit team.

  • @ebony88ivory Hey the Steve Pettit Evangelistic Team just released this song on their new album. It's on itunes right now. It's called "Come Boldly" (: Hope that helps.
