A roughly 1920 Seeburg style L automatic saloon piano. Common as dust in the 1920s, these fun little pianos have had a fairly good survival rate with many still found around the country. The machine has a moderately rare mahogany case. The case was originally a nice two door case with leaded glass, but was modified well before I got the machine. The cut is
"Yellow Dog Blues" from a recut Capitol A-1958 roll.

  • Nice Clarence Johnson

  • 1919 is the date of composition. Clarence Johnson also made a roll of "The Blues My Naughty Sweetie Gives Me" in 1925, although that tune was also originally copyrighted in 1919.

This was probably done because someone at the roll company realized they had never released a roll of either of these classic tunes before.

By the way, I think the latter roll is the best piano roll ever made.

  • According to the Montgomery 's Rollography this is indeed Clarence Johnson but from 1919 ???

  • This is indeed Clarence Johnson!!!!

  • Another Clarence Johnson arrangement... this one was also released as Capitol 88-note roll #1333 in 1925. Tune by W.C. Handy (of course). Nice piano virtuosity and nice drop-bass!
