I spent some time in water getting the calibration right....and understanding what the calibration does. It seems there is a "sweet spot" outside of which, there is "excess noise". For instance, I would get a steady "tone" while sweeping right, but not left when settings (threshold and elimination) weren't set right. I practiced on a dime (getting the settings) in water.

Once I got the settings, it worked like a CHARM.
My first find, a mere Penny (1984 D) was exciting. It took four or five breath-hold dives (in 5 feet of water) to Unearth it (moving sediment away by digging and fanning).
So, it's a special Penny to me, cuz it's my "FIRST".....and not an accident, but a function of spending the time to set up for success....it is a nice piece of Validation.
