I'd say it's more of the result of being a rich, 'educated', privileged young white woman who has never had to work a day in her life. Her family has probably never been a party in a legal proceeding they couldn't buy their way out of. BRAVO!!!! What she says is completely false. Countries which have the death penalty tend to have higher rates of violence than those that do not. I would also add that EVERY industrialized democracy on earth EXCEPT the US has abolished the death penalty. And EVERY police state has retained it. List of countries which keep the death penalty: Iran China Myanmar (Burma) Cuba Vietnam need I continue?

Oddly, the State of Louisiana has a fairly low population (no death penalty) but yet had the highest murder rate.

I am not really anti death penalty but I have done some looking into it. One thing I have found to be true is that on a national average, states with the Death Penalty have a higher murder rate than states that don't. But one thing to consider, Four states that do have the death penalty (texas, florida, ohio, and pennsyvania) have very large populations. The state of New York is the most populace state and still has a larger than average murder rate.
