Euphonium Concerto by Joseph Horovitz
Treveor Groom - soloist

Commissioned by the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britian. World premired October 14,1972 in the Royal Albert Hall . The soloist was British virtuoso Trevor Groom with the G.U.S.Footwear band conducted by Stanley H. Boddington .

In this recording Trevor Groom is once again playing with the G.U.S. Footwear Band but the composer,Joseph Horovitz, is conducting.

During the 1960's,1970's and 1980's Mr. Groom set a standard of virtuosity for euphonium playing that had never been heard before. His playing has been the inspiration of young performers since that time. He has been the role model for many of today's superstar players.

This concerto was the first ever of it's kind written for euphonium. Mr. Horovitz said of his work " The 3-movement structure reflects my essentially classical outlook concerning concertos. Traditonally this design favors the listener,as it were, first in the head, then in the heart, and finally in the toes.My Concerto for Euphonium with brass band fits comfortably into this scheme."
