In the footsteps of Alexander the Great

In this award winning adventure Micheal Wood embarks on a 2000 mile journey in the foot steps of Alexander's triumphal march from Greece to India. Travelling with Lebanese traders, Iranian pilgrims and Afghan guerillas, by jeep, train, boat, camel and on foot, he interweaves the momentous events of the past with present day reality and brings us new insights into a man whose myth and acheivements still resonate down the centuries

"We saw things I can scarcely believe. We took shelter for the night with an Afghan warlord who had delivered pizzas in the United States, and were hauled off to jail more than once. It was one of the great experiences of my life" - Michael Wood

  • Hahaha, these people are Turkmens (Turks), not Persians :)

  • M. Wood claims they too are Turkmen as well, dear Cyrus.

But Persian influence here during the timed invasion of Alexander and his Greeks was obvious.

It isnt only the turkmen that claim Alexandros was the "dual horned" one :)

  • I have been obsessed and idolized Alexander the Great ever since I was 12yrs old. The man has everything to do with who I am as a person today. Truly one of the greatest individuals to ever live. To accomplish even half of what he did is a thought that exaust most mortal men. Thank you for this, I enjoyed it greatly.

  • @cyrusiancyrus Back then it was all Persians

  • The man speaks in Persian Language, i guess this place is in Part of Turkmenistan which is in Merv, next to Khorezm (Uzbekistan). Even in present time in Merv still lives a lot of Tajiks about 500.000. I guess they accept Turkmen identity, thats how they look alike.

dear, you are the one who needs to read the Quran. it is full of stories about the prophets and their lives. nothing about conquest or descriptions of torture. Please try to be fair and just. don'e just talk nonsense about what you don't know.
