Betrayer of his race? Even if you're racist that makes no sence

Either K.bro would kill this guy.

Wow. 1909!

I have no idea why Johnson wasn't on the list of 100 greatest punchers of all time. Johnson > Ali possibly.

Does anyone out though know if Jack Johnson used to fight under the name Jack Jefferson whilst in Paris in 1914? I have an old boxing program Jack Jefferson v Henri Bouchard fought in Paris January 1914 and in the 1970 film about Johnson's life he was called Jack Jefferson which was apparantly a made up name for the film. I've seen programs from his fights sell for over $6000 and wonder if what i have is rare? Thanks for any info

It would not have been close or interesting, Johnson would beat him 100 times out of 100. Jack Johnson let up on everyone to keep the hatred and death threats at bay. To see clips of this man fighting, his demeanor, boxing style, supreme confidence, it's impossible to think anyone at that time could touch him. It's actually quite surprising that he's not showered with hyperbole because he was both an athletic and intellectual genius and was way ahead of his time.

crowley0312, I feel sorry for Jeffries because he was forced out of retirement to be the figurehead of white racism when he wasn't a racist himself. I still think a prime Johnson would beat a prime Jeffries, but it would have been a close and interesting fight.

Nice film - but you have the wrong date. The fight was on 4 July 1910.

'Betrayer of his race', to describe Jeffries? I thought Johnson was the one who had to take racist abuse.
