A first look at the new Google Chrome OS. I tell you where to get it, what to watch out for and provide a live demonstration of the OS so you don't have to bother!

The new OS set to revolutionise, simplyify and grant a true netbook experience.

  • What type of applications is available?

    Can you do photo editing?

Does it show how much RAM/CPU is being used?

    :-) Nice video.

  • From what I can tell, the only applications for it so far, are website applications run from directly within Chromes browser. GMail, yahoo mail, hotmail, google calander, google reader, google docs, youtube, picasaweb, hulu, lala, Pandora, contacts, calculator, to do list, calendar panel, books, chess, facebook and twitter.

But these are all run from the internet, not located on your computer. Apart from Chrome Browser itself I can see no way of running standard linux or offline apps at all.

  • I have no idea how much RAM/CPU is being used, and it wouldn't be fair to claim knowledge when I'm running it within a virtual machine environment. So we won't really know this until Google includes some kind of RAM and CPU monitor, and I've installed it on a laptop.

There is no photo editing app that I can see, I imagine later on. As Google Chromium OS develops we'll see hardware side applications run directly from the machine, but at this point all I can see are web apps from the net.

  • They may as well rename the incognito window 'porn mode'. :)

  • Since the new tablets seem to replace the old net-books,that's what Jobs said, do you think sometime in the future android and this new OS will mix in one.

  • @darkprinciples As to photo editing... In google docs you can do drawings now, so in the nearest future I expect this ability to be as good as MS Paint.

  • I had this a while back but it ran really slow. i may try it again, but if i ever do did you ever figure out how to view all the open windows?
