In 1945, on the advice of her agent, Gloria Jean declined to renew her contract at Universal, opting for a tour of the USA and Europe. The tour wasn't very successful. When she returned, she didn't find many studios willing to use her. Out of sympathy, Groucho Marx gave her a role in this movie, the idea being that it would help revive her career. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.
