@LiutendantJack777 the good news is, that you don't even need them cos people today wont come at you with a sword (most likely) and you wont have one to attack them with (most likely). so it's not that important that the exact moves of kendo (not all, but some) can't be used as effectively with a real sword, i just mentioned it. bye bye now.

@BladeKempMusic uh. this comment you wrote in response to my previous one is three months old, and i didn't really want to answear cos even if i did you might not get it, cos you can only see things you want to. what i really want to say, that none of that swordmanship, movement and techniqe will be the ones you would need to cut someone down with a real sword. which means, that even though you did kendo, you dont know the ways of cutting. you might injure (including yourself) but not cut down.

This is all awesome until you grab the sword by the blade.

lol at repetition and tranquility of these guys

@LiutendantJack777 kendos not about cutting - its swordsmanship, movement and technique - whereas Iaido isnt fighting, its cutting

have you ever praticed? it seems that you are and ignorant. I have a combat kendo with a sensei, and i can tell you thath this 60 years old granpa cut me in 50 pieces in 2 seconds.
And there are 2 kind of cuts, the large(normally), and the short for combat...
ANd als kendo have agood seynergy with Iado.

@PvtVoulge i think you could, they are showing it slow so u can see how its done. a real master whos practiced could very well do this. its simmilar to a move we learned in police academy in stopping an edged weapon/blunt weapon attacker. actually its exactly the same minus the hand chop off at the end.

@LiutendantJack777 It depends strongly on the dojo. Kendo is one of those sports that can be very traditional. I know one Kendoka who learns in a dojo where they simply always train for the next tournament and one where they almost never do tournaments and put allot of effort in teaching tradition.
(The first one was the one who went flying. ;D )
But one should never forget that it is still a martial sport.

haha but also, kendo is a joke. you can't cut nothing with hitting it. you see, cutting and hitting is like lightyears appart.

A Kendoka said the same thing once, and he went flying. And kendokas are trained to be fast.
In Aikido speed means nearly nothing. A good Aikidoka controls time and space at all times, hence speed is rather relative.
Then this is just kata ;)
