Performing "Night" by Bruce Springsteen.

One of my favorite song titles of his. It's so simple, ambiguous, and unusual (most songwriters would probably call it something like The Night or In The Night).

I have a general rule of thumb when doing rock songs acoustically: I either find a version that works, or I don't do the song. I won't just do any damn thing on acoustic (Ex: the full-band Born To Run or Tom Petty's American Girl). I only play songs, or versions of songs, that I think work on just one instrument.

That being said, I'm on the fence about this one. I'm still not sure if it works, and I'd be interested in your feedback. What do you think? Do you love Night acoustic? Hate Night acoustic and think I should leave it for full bands?

  • I like it buddy. what is the chord you are playing at the beginning when you sing " and off you scream into the night". Its the chord before the D when you sing night? It appears a few times in the song. thx man

  • It's just a regular A chord. "Lock up the house" is Em, "turn off the light" is Am, and "step out into the night" is A.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • This version is really amazing. "And ever muscle in your body swings" - your face shows it, you feel it, man!

    Greets from Europe

  • Friend you totally inspired me to learn this one. I saw Bruce a few weeks back here in Montreal and I'm heading out to Jersey to catch one of his last shows of this tour in July. Amazing...simply amazing the impact this man's music has made on all of us who truly get it, who are right there evolving with it. Incredible feeling music gives and the power that it has to transfer inspiration from art.

You've done that for me friend...seriously, keep rocking!!!

  • i like it

  • one of my springsteen favorits ... your version is really good
