On July 21st 2007 the City of San Pablo lost four souls. Two of thier bravest from Engine Co.70. Matt Burton and Scott Desmond were working at a small residential house fire when they were caught in a flashover while attempting to rescue the residents from thier home at 145 Michelle Dr. Delbert and Gayle Morre also died in the fire. They will all be remembered and never forgotten.

This is one of the most difficult nights I have ever had in a fire house in 20 years. I want to share this video with you all as one firefighter to another. We are brothers and sisters in honor and strength. It is my belief that we stand next each other unitl the very end (EGH) and behind eachother in the aftermath. Every richmond firefighter listening to radio that night wishes they could have been there that night. As the names of the members of Engine Co.70 that we have worked side by side with and love, raced through our heads, I can only tell you, that the tears that fell that night with the possbilities were some of the most painful I have ever felt. With that said, it is with great honor and profound respect for Matt and Scott and part of my healing that I make this video. Always remember and honor what they have done. Always yours in service, Marc Lucero Richmond, Ca, Local 188

  • Uncle matt,

Its been almost 4 years and it doesnt get any easier...i love u and miss u so much.. its hurts so bad that ur not here with us, the pain is one that cannot even be described...until we meet again brave amazing uncle i love u, and ur memory is cherished by many!

  • I grew up with Matt - we went to school together from elementary school through high school. I just now learned of these tragic deaths. I can still see Matt cruising around our neighborhood in his little red truck. Guess he always did like those red trucks. :)

Good-bye Matt. My heart goes out to Chantel, Megan and Joshua.

  • Megan Burton (Matts Daughter) goes to my school.

  • Uncle matt burton & Friend Scott, miss you so much. Uncle matt was always there for me & my family. I will always remember his hugs & the way he pushed us so hard to be the best people we could be.And i will live my life to make them as proud as they made us. I will always remember my uncle's funny sayings like "funky fresh" and "sweet," he has always been my role model but now he is my hero. Scott and Matt were so brave and I am proud of them both.

    i love you

  • matt burtons daughter goes to my school i feel for her

  • This makes me so sad, but also so proud of Scott. I worked with Scott for several years at SunAmerica. He always wanted to become a firefighter, I was so impressed with how dedicated he was to his chosen career. Scott was a funny and kind guy who always cared about people and was friendly to everyone. In three years working with him, I don't think I ever heard him say a bad word about anyone. I'm glad he got to live his dream, and I'm glad I got to know him for those few years.
