I'm from Eunice, and we spell Opelousas, like this

Believe me this accent is unique to the South and many southerners have a hard time with it also. South/southwestern Louisiana is different by Southern standards.

I'm from southwestern Louisiana and he is talking a little fast --maybe he's a little excited about giving the tour. In general movies always get this accent wrong. Listen for the "and all that (dat)" and "and everything (everyting)". Basically the guys talking about his career and the tour maybe coming to an end and how he can't believe it.

We didn't just come down voluntarily. We were exiled from Nova Scotia (Acadie at the time) by the English who won the land from the French in a war. Then We were loaded into slave ships, separated from family and brought to an unfamiliar land with nothing! But yes we were the first French in North America.

We were the first French settlers in North America. We settled in Nova Scotia, then came down to South Louisiana.
