Is that road considered a standard back road? I was told today that you really need an off road style bike when in Scandinavia to ride it properly.

Yeah, more or less standard. Here my speed was low, about 20 or 30 mph. But a less winding back roads speeds up to 60 - 70 mph or not exceptional. The standard Norwegian back roads are pretty good, is my experience. Untill they are soaked, An off road bike (with the right tires) helps off course, but I've seen a few normal street bikes too on the back roads.
