East Pass Blockade

Horns, waves, signs & shouts greeted motorists on the Marler Bridge on November 7, 2009 as more than 100 boats gathered in Destin's East Pass to rally in support of the Worlds Luckiest Fishing Village.

The vessels, including about 70 charter boats, formed a symbolic blockade of the East Pass on the harbor to support the Destin Charter Boat Association, which organized the flotilla.

The National Marine Fisheries Service, which governs the recreational and commercial fishing industries, abruptly announced the closing of snapper season on September 20, 2009 and the amberjack season on October 24, 2009.

Local fishermen believe these decisions are flawed and eventually will lead to more restrictions despite larger fish populations.

The efforts made by Larry in the making of this video is great and we all can comment and show our support for our local fisherman as they are continually challanged by laws and regulations, especially during theses tuff economical times.
