Westminster, London England. Demonstration Against the Conservative Led Coalition Government by UK wide group. Estimates suggest, and I concur, that between 250,000 and 500,000 attended the march. I ended my part of march early at Trafalgar Square to head home and make 6:00 pm dinner for the kids. --

Following on from the 2010 UK student protests against spending cuts to education, the 2011 protest was largely organised by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) who referred to their protest as the March for the Alternative. Starting at Thames Embankment, the protest march led down to Hyde Park, where a rally took place. This video ends in Whitehall, near Trafalgar Square.

Camera used was a Nikon D3100 in HD mode, edited in iMovie on a Macbook.

  • I was so impressed with Union Leaders passionately encouraging in accents that you just knew originated from Britain's true heart. And still a never ending stream with colourful banners came marchers and campaigners for 'fairness' hour after hour with such positive vibes, vuvuzalers, whistles, chants and determined demeanour all knowing that the march had to send out its alternative message to a discredited Tory led coalition government.

  • What a throng crowded into Hyde Park to picnic to rest, to meet old friends and to be enraptured by rousing speeches. And how appropriate a Northern brass band (it seemed to me) epitomised a staged interlude with that particular musical tradition in trumpet, trombone and triumphant sounding cymbal. (continued)

We can't follow the german model we are british (taking the piss)

Best Idea is to get rid of the human conditon called GREED

  • @privatecaboose250 - It's too far gone now, the model this nation followed for the past 30 years has made Britain THE financial capital of the world - it's our core strength, if we attack that now with high taxes they'll jump ship and go abroad to run the casino game elsewhere - a solution? Not a solution but perhaps back in the 1980's when the miners were striking, instead of dissolving union influence we could have taken lessons from the German social market economic model.

  • @GoVir4l

Well it's the ppl fault for voting the tories, they are the party for the rich and they will always will be.

I am so sick of ppl always blaming the Lib Dems, they are not the only ones in .power

I know the Lib Dems promised certain things but they couldn't deliever some because they had to compromise, if they hadn't we would have had another general election.

What is the solution to this mess then?

  • How about marching for the legalisation of Marijuana? - lets see how many third world nations we can lift out of debt to the IMF/WORLD BANK before 2050 with the tax benefits from its sale across the civilised world.

  • @sail1948 - 'civil disobedience' - pah! The MoD wrote reports back in 2006 about 50 years of civil disobedience & even flash mob rioting (remember the riots last month?) - how is one to strike when we have an economy that is comprised of a circa 80% service sector? Totally divided and conquered - women in the workplace were far to stupid and gullible to prevent the Orwellian & shitty working conditions/pay they endure today - Marx wasn't describing a feminised service sector in Das Kapital.

  • @private - That's not the debate here, the champagne socialists of the labour party would've made cuts aswel - probably more - their nanny state was a complete failure - but let's have it right, ever since the decline of unions British jobs have been sent overseas - so we get cheaper (shitty) products as toff Eton educated Government millionaire politicians aim to hit inflation targets - our jobs become more scarce & more insecure. Job quality has been ERODED since the dissolution of unions.
