I last heard this song in the Spring of 1960. I was woofing down an HLT in the snack bar at the student center at UGA and it was being sung by Newley himself on TV (American Bandstand, I think - -.And my wife says I'm losing my memory). Thanks!.!
(Isn't Newley also the author of "Yesterday, When I was Young"?)

A very underrated (in the uk) talent. I have seen him many times in concert and he was magic and a very nice man too.

I once worked sound mixing for Mr. Newley and this record from 1960 was my all-time favorite for years. Thanks for posting an excellent performance!

This song was originally composed by Spanish team Moreu(who wrote the lyrics)and Augusto Algueró,a famous composer who has penned some of the most popular tunes for films and tv advertising in Spain,with the title "La montaña".First played in the 1st Benidorm Song Contest (Benidorm,Alicante) in 1959.Didn't win;nevertheless it became one of the most popular tunes at the time.Matt Monro did a charming cover in Spanish.A splendid rendering in Spanish as well by crooner José Guardiola.

Thank you for your comments, and, Yes, I too, think it is beautiful. The first time I heard this song, Anthony, sang it in french. Of course with a strong english accent, which made it even more beautiful and charming.
